The skin around the eyes is delicate, and the sooner you start protecting it the better. Serums can contain a lot of highly potent and concentrated ingredients that will help you combat or prevent the signs of ageing. It penetrates easier than a heavier cream. To know whether a serum is right for you, test a little drop on your hands. If it absorbs quickly and does not leave a sticky residue, it's the right one for you. If it feels sticky, it's probably too heavy for your skin type.
WHAT DO SERUMS DO?
There are various types in the market. Most contain moisturising properties, and some are specialised to combat specific problems. If the skin is saggy around your eyes, choose a lifting serum, that contains ingredients to lift and smoothen the skin. If you suffer from puffiness and dark eye circles, choose an eye serum designed to reduce puff and improve circulation. These will increase circulation in the eye area, revitalise and rejuvenate, giving you instantly brighter eyes. If fine lines and wrinkles are your concern, choose one with extra nourishing properties to replenish the cells around your eyes.
The right time to start using an eye serum would be when you start your skincare regime. A lot of people neglect the eye, despite having a cleanse, tone, moisturise routine for the face. They think that eye serums and creams are for older women. This is not so. The eyes need even more care than other parts of the face, therefore it only makes sense to start using eye products the minute you start taking care of your face. Of course, a lot of serums are targeted at older women, but if you start right at the beginning, you will reap the benefits of it when you're older.
How to apply eye serum
step 1
Clean your face throughly. Excess oil and dirt will hinder the efficacy of the product.
step 2
Using your ring finger, take serum from jar, about half the size of a five sen coin. Your ring finger is gentlest and ideal for the delicate area around the eyes.
step 3
Gently dot the serum, from under your eye all the way to the outer corner and back to the inner corner of your upper lid. Don't drag the skin. Continue using tapping motions all round for about 10 seconds.
step 4
Give the serum time to absorb. Wait at least 10 minutes before applying anything else to the area, such as makeup.
